To restore hope in our youth is no less than securing a place in our future. We can no longer abandon our legacy by not preparing our children to take their position in society. Hopelessness runs rampant among our youth. So much so a large number of our youth don’t even see a future. We will offer summer workshops, camps, training and mentoring in a variety of categories to address this issue in our youth.
Educating the Black Male
As we prepare for the upcoming year of 2009. A recent trip to Washington, D.C.'s Howard University has impacted our executive director in such a way that our youth program has under gone a restructuring to benefit the most underserved people in American society - the Black Male youth.
The program is simply called "10"! we will recruit ten black male students from schools throughout southern California and send them through a rigorous development program that includes, academics, culture, the arts, business and debate. The top ten performers from the total group will win a full-time scholarship to Howard University.
We intend on collaborating with various organizations, conducting several fundraisers and developing some of the best men this nation can produce. For more information, please register as a Friend of Umoja Group and we'll put you on our email list.
