The Umoja Project
Our Goals

Our goal is to initiate, develop and promote prosperity in economically disadvantaged communities.

Our Vision:

Is to create an environment of economic empowerment and community development in disadvantaged and mis-represented communities.

Our Mission:

Developing Black Men to become a more viable & respectible member of our society, community and families.

To Achieve these Steps Towards Their Greatness:

  • Self Empowerment
  • Responsible
  • Reliable
  • Consistant
  • Strength
  • Confidence

Our objectives are:

·        Implementing a community development program that inspires a positive economic impact through "collective engagement".

·        Create a business training environment to promote commerce and trade.

·        Develop programs and initiatives to develop our youth.

·        Teach Wealth Building skills to our youth, families and communities.

·        To establish partnerships with the corporate community.

Further, we will incorporate these ideas in various projects that are designed to benefit our youth, our core population and our senior citizen population. Our efforts will be largely collaborations with existing organizations, businesses and government entities. It is this ‘Unity’ spirit of Umoja, which we are promoting and advocating throughout the community in an effort to be “part of the solution”.

Identify Problem

Based on our initial observation, we have identified three areas that need development and or economic revitalization: 1.) Disadvantaged communities share un-proportionately high un-employment levels; 2.) Businesses are increasingly operated by entrepreneurs from outside the immediate community therefore taking the profits to their respective communities while inhibiting the re-cycling of our dollars; and 3.) While the African American community  largely supports, patronizes and shows loyalty to major corporate entities, these corporations rarely give back proportionately to the African American community.

Advocate Solution

We will address these issues by establishing community training centers; we will incorporate an entrepreneur training program; we will recruit corporate partners to invest in our endeavors by hiring and training local residents as well as contributing to various community ventures.
